The #1 Place To “Fish” For Drivers For Free In 2019

Written by Nemanja Deric
Truck driver shortage is the no 1 concern for trucking companies, and if you’re not ready to adopt and implement new techniques to acquire them, you will never grow.

If you’re still looking for drivers on aggregator sites like jobs2carrers, indeed, craigslist and such, you are pretty much wasting your time. The biggest problem with these websites is competition; you may have a really good sign on bonus and all the other incentives, but guess what, so do the other 40 companies who are looking for drivers. With that being said, your chances of hiring the driver you want are pretty slim.

Knowing where to fish, and what “bait” to use, will drastically improve your chances of success.

So, what is this magic place where every truck driver spends their free time?
It’s Social media!
A whopping 98% of company drivers are on social media, predominantly Facebook. Facebook has more than 1.8 billion monthly active users in the US alone!

Having a strong social media presence is the foundation of attracting the best drivers out there!
This is where you show the world WHY your company is the best, and why should people apply to work for you.
When drivers see your hiring ad somewhere, they are most certainly going to check out your website and your FB page.

So, what should you post on your page?

Just post this, “We’re hiring, $1500 sign on bonus, blah blah...” NO!

I see this all the time when I’m browsing through trucking companies’ FB pages. There’s literally nothing else on there, except the repetitive “We’re hiring”, “We need that person”, “We need...” posts.

DO NOT OVERWHELM WITH JOB OFFERINGS!
Your FB page is where you show people the reason WHY your company is the best company to work for.

Post pictures and videos (videos are 10x more effective) of your staff and your drivers. Introduce them to all the potential applicants who want to work for you.
When those applicants come in for the interview, they are going to feel so much more accepted because they feel like they already know everyone.

BRAG about your driver’s accomplishments! Big or small. This will make your drivers feel special and it will make every other driver out there want to work for you because they want to feel like they are a part of something and be appreciated!

Driver testimonials (video) – THIS IS HUGE! – When your potential applicants see how your drivers enjoy working for your company, they will apply in a heartbeat.

Taking a picture and/or writing a post on your page will literally take 3-5 minutes, and it won't cost you a dime, but it will PAY HUGE dividends in the long run!

If you have all this in place, and your FB page is on point, it’s time to FISH!

Join every trucking related group on Facebook and be active!
Answer someone's question, let people know that you are interested in hiring. This can be done once or twice a day and it takes no longer than 2 minutes.

When those guys and gals see your amazing FB page, they will literally leave other companies to come work for you.

BONUS TIP:
Another great place to hunt for drivers is your own company! REFERRALS and REHIRES

If you don’t have a referral program in place, it's time to put one in! Make sure all drivers know about this and make sure they don’t forget.
Print some posters and put them up on walls in drivers lounges or anywhere where your drivers can see it.

REHIRES: Call or send a letter to the drivers that have quit after 30 days.
There’s no reason why you shouldn't call great drivers you have lost and ask them to come back. Call them and say that it bothers you you’ve lost such a great guy, and say how you have a job for them if the new place they started working for doesn’t work.
You’d be surprised how many will call you back.
